Three Impossible Tasks is a concept album about making, losing and keeping friends. It takes place in a nostalgic landscape, reminiscent of computer games in the 90’s and fantasy films in the 80’s. Think Labyrinth meets Neverending Story meets Encarta ‘99 meets Windows ‘95. It’s earnest, hopeful and nostalgic, whilst also dipping into moments of shadow which feel unnerving and a bit too real.
The album follows the path of the heroes journey, almost feeling like you’re moving through a video game with each song pertaining to a different location and a different interaction or level.
I am currently writing each song with a specific location and aspect of friendship in mind. For example, the lighthouse is about being a place of safety and solace for someone, but also pushing them to move forward with their lives once they have recovered. The maze is about making new friends and the constant questions of compatibility, shared time and shared interests, when you meet someone you like. The bridge is about that moment you choose to let a friendship end.
